Ally Dziwis hit a sacrifice fly with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning to score Courtney Hastings and give Central York a dramatic 1-0 softball victory over visiting Spring Grove on Thursday afternoon.
Central's Taylor Rohrbaugh pitched a shutout, striking out eight and walking none, while Jordyn Miller went 2-for-3 at the plate, including a double.
For the Rockets, Erika Heck pitched a complete game, striking out five and walking three.
Central improved to 2-0, while Spring Grove fell to 2-1.
OTHER SOFTBALL
YORK SUBURBAN 9, YORK TECH 5: At Suburban, Rachel Fry pitched a complete game to get the win. She struck out four without a walk. Fry also had three hits, including a double. Brooke Day, Britt Dalton and Jen Lloyd each added two hits. Day tripled while Dalton doubled. Shaelyn Seiple had three hits for Tech, while Savannah Grimes had two.
SOUTH WESTERN 7, DOVER 2: At Hanover, Sarah Bortner pitched a complete-game eight-hitter and also went 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs to lead South Western. Bortner fanned nine and didn't walk a batter. Taylor Leonard and Jordan Chell each added two hits for the Mustangs. Alexis Gohn pitched a complete game for Dover, striking out seven. Katie Diehl went 3-for-4 for the Eagles with a homer and a double. Dover's Andi Smith went 2-for-3 with a double.
NEW OXFORD 8, WEST YORK 3: At New Oxford, the Colonials scored five runs in the first three innings and never looked back. Sarah Groft had three hits to lead the winners. Nicole Ayers got the win, pitching four one-hit shutout innings. She fanned six and walked one.
SUSQUEHANNOCK 15, YORK CATHOLIC 0: At Glen Rock, the home team rolled to a 21/2-inning mercy-rule triumph. Madi Shockey (3-for-3, double) and Jordan McGee (2-for-2, triple, walk) led the Warriors' offense. Sara Lynch got the win on the mound, allowing just one hit. She fanned six and walked one.
DELONE CATHOLIC 22, EASTERN YORK 14: The host Golden Knights committed five errors and surrendered 18 hits in a losing effort. Eastern's Grace Divet (2-for-3) had a triple and Chelsea Talbot (3-for-3) had two doubles. The Squirettes had five players with multiple hits.
KENNARD-DALE 6, RED LION 2: At Red Lion, Desiree Joines struck out seven and walked four to lead the Rams. Joines also received excellent defense behind her. In the first, left fielder Sam Baldwin made a running grab on a line drive to record the final out of the inning with Red Lion runners on second and third. K-D's Teanna Webb had a double for the lone extra-base hit of the game.
