Everyone likes to save some cash.

And at the York Fair, lots of fairgoers take advantage of promotional days that cut costs of admission or rides, said Mike Froehlich, general manager of the fair.

"And what we've found through the years is that the promotional days are some of the largest days at the fair," he said.

Having special discount days is part of the fair's effort to increase traffic on weekdays and promote its sponsors, Froehlich said.

It's hard to say which promotional days are the best attended — that's dependent on the weather — but the Utz, Weis and Community Courier promotions have historically had good days, he said.

"And of course, the Dollar Day on the first day is a great way to preview the fair, get the fair up and running," Froehlich said.

Admission is normally $8 for adults, $4 for those 6-18 years old and college students with ID, and free for kids 5 and under. Parking is $7. The gates open at 11 a.m. Friday through Sunday and at noon Monday through Thursday.

This year's fair runs from Friday to Sunday, Sept. 14, with the following promotional days:
