York County authorities are searching for a retired Hannah Penn Middle School gym teacher who was acquitted of inappropriately touching students, but who later pleaded no contest to intimidating a young girl he had been accused of molesting.

Edward Fullum III, 64, of Uniontown, Fayette County, is more than 1,000 days late in paying his court fines and costs, according to York County court records.

He owes about $1,900 in fines and costs, records state.

A probation-violation hearing was scheduled for Monday, but he failed to attend the hearing and a bench warrant was issued for his arrest, according to deputy prosecutor Kara Bowser.

Fullum pleaded no contest in 2009 to the felony of intimidating a witness and was sentenced to five years of probation.

By that time he had served nearly three years in prison while awaiting resolution of his criminal cases.

Charges dropped: In exchange for Fullum's plea, all other charges against him were dismissed, including those related to allegations he molested a young girl.

Spring Garden Township Police accused both Fullum and his ex-wife, Joyce Royster, of trying to coerce the testimony of the girl Fullum was charged with molesting, as well as the testimony of the girl's mother.

Fullum's plea was for intimidating the girl's mother, according to the prosecutor at the time.

Royster, a former York City School District administrator, had agreed to testify against her ex-husband related to the intimidation charge; in exchange her charges were dropped, prosecutors said at the time.

Girl testified: The girl Fullum was accused of molesting initially told authorities about the alleged activities, but at Fullum's 2007 preliminary hearing — when the girl was 7 years old — she said she didn't remember making the allegations.

The girl's mother initially told authorities that Royster and Fullum tried to intimidate her from testifying, police said. But at a March 2008 hearing, she said they never intimidated her.

Royster was previously principal of the York City Alternative School, principal on special assignment at William Penn Senior High School and principal at Hannah Penn.

First case: In July 2006, Fullum was acquitted of charges he inappropriately touched female students at Hannah Penn between November 2004 and April 2005 during gym classes.

York City Police cited the school district in 2005 for failing to report the suspected inappropriate touching of students, as required by state law. The district later pleaded guilty to the summary charge and paid a $400 fine.
