Investigators are asking for the help of anyone who witnessed a fatal train-car collision Saturday in Newberry Township.
A 23-year-old woman died and two other people were injured after a northbound train hit the passenger side of their eastbound Mitsubishi Outlander at about 4:45 p.m.
The crash happened at a Norfolk Southern railroad crossing on a private Susquehanna River access road off of Cly Road, Newberry Township Police said.
Cori E. Sisti, of Mechanicsburg, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Akim S. Jones-Williams, also of Mechanicsburg, was flown to York Hospital, where he was listed in satisfactory condition Sunday night. A 2-year-old child was flown from the scene to Penn State Hershey Medical Center. Police did not release the child's name, and a condition could not be determined Sunday.
There are no warning lights at the intersection where the crash occurred, but Dave Pidgeon, a spokesman for Norfolk Southern, said the train's crew sounded the horn before the crash.
The train pushed the car about 75 yards on the Norfolk Southern railroad tracks. The car came to rest in a wooded area east of the tracks, police said.
None of the train's four locomotives or 45 empty freight cars derailed, Pidgeon said.
The company will conduct an internal investigation, he said, but Newberry Township Police are the lead investigators.
"We're going to cooperate with their investigation," Pidgeon said.
Newberry Township Police ask that anyone who witnessed the crash or has any information about it call the department at 938-2608
