A York City man allegedly led state police troopers on a chase that reached speeds in excess of 115 mph and ended with a crash in Spring Garden Township earlier this week.

Driver Shakeem Tywaun Ali Murray, 23, of 209 S. Pine St., and two passengers in a Hyundai SUV were injured in the crash at the intersection of North Yale and East Philadelphia streets, state police said.

Neither Murray nor passengers Malcolm Murray, 21, and Laron Sohnleitner, 22, both of York, were wearing seatbelts, police said.

All three were taken to York Hospital for treatment.

Shakeem Murray was in satisfactory condition at the hospital on Thursday, and the hospital didn't have Malcolm Murray or Sohnleitner listed as patients, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Shakeem Murray is charged with fleeing and eluding, DUI, reckless endangerment and reckless driving, according to his charging documents.

Bail was set at $25,000 when he was arraigned Monday, according to court records.

Chase: A pair of state troopers in a cruiser spotted the rented Hyundai Santa Fe that Shakeem Murray was driving on Interstate 83 southbound just north of Exit 33, the Yocumtown exit, in Newberry Township about 3 a.m. Monday and began to follow it after it abruptly exited the highway, charging documents state.

The SUV went south on Old Trail Road where it drove through the front lawn of a house to turn around and headed north. The SUV was then steered into the parking lot of a business in the 1700 block of Old Trail Road, where the troopers attempted a traffic stop, documents state.

Instead of stopping, the SUV was driven down an embankment and back onto Old Trail Road. The SUV eventually got back onto I-83 and Shakeem Murray accelerated it to above 115 mph, documents state.

The posted speed limit in the area is 65 mph.

Crash: Shakeem Murray slowed to about 85 mph as he started to exit the highway at Exit 19B, the West Market Street exit, in Spring Garden Township but accelerated about halfway down the curved ramp, documents state.

The speed was too great, and the SUV went off the road and crashed into a pole and a tree, documents state.

Troopers found two open bottles of liquor inside the SUV, documents state.

Neither Malcolm Murray nor Sohnleitner was charged.

Most recent court records don't list an attorney for Shakeem Murray.
