At 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, PennDOT announced that speed-limit restrictions for Interstate 83 and Route 30 have been lifted.

Snow began falling in York County about 6 a.m., and dozens of crashes were being reported.

The treacherous conditions forced the state Department of Transportation to temporarily reduced the speed limit on I-83 to 45 mph from the Maryland state line to Interstate 81 in Dauphin County.

PennDOT also reduced the speed limit on Route 30 in York and Lancaster counties to 45 mph.

Shortly after 10 a.m., PennDOT said major roadways were passable, and 90 minutes later they announced the speed-limit restrictions had been lifted.
