Ten candidates are running for the three county commissioner positions. Those include seven Republicans and three Democrats. The field will be narrowed to two Republicans and two Democrats in the May 15 primary election.

REPUBLICANS


Steve Chronister

Age: 53
Residence: West Manchester Township
Family: Wife, Julie, and three children: Ryan, 22, Gretchen, 18, Jordan, 16.
Occupation: Incumbent county commissioner (since 2004), previously a real estate agent, developer and investor. Education: York Catholic High School
Community involvement: Former West Manchester Township supervisor (1992-2003), raised funds for various charities through golf events, co-founder of the York County Junior Golf Association.


Jeff Joy

Age: 42
Residence: New Freedom
Family: Wife, Rebecca, sons Benjamin and Kyle
Occupation: Municipal Planner/Trainer for the York County Office of Emergency Management
Education: Graduate of Susquehannock High School, class of 1983, graduate of the Broadcasting Institute of Maryland in 1984, emergency management certification from the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency.
Community involvement: Mayor of New Freedom since 2001, member of New Freedom Borough Council from 1999-2001, active with the Rose Volunteer Fire Co. since 1984, emergency management coordinator for New Freedom since 1994, police commissioner for the Southern Regional Police Department since 2001


Larry Gurreri

Age: 58
Residence: Dover Borough
Family: Single, three sons and a daughter

Lori Mitrick

Age: 58

Occupation: Incumbent county commissioner (since 2004)
Education: Queen of Peace High School, Chicago, bachelor of science in special education from Northern Illinois University, masters degree in special education with a focus on people with multiple disabilities from Northern Illinois University, specialist degree in counseling of the disabled from the University of Kansas.
Community involvement: Former Springettsbury Township supervisor (1992-2003), member of the executive board of directors of York County Economic Development Corp., the executive board of directors for Martin Library, the board of directors of Lancaster-York Heritage Region, the board of directors for YorkCounts, active with Leadership York and Future Leaders of York, serves as mentor for students interested in county government.


David E. Myers

Age: 52
Residence: Windsor Township
Family: Married to Susan Myers; they have four children and a grandson
Occupation: Pilot flight instructor with Flightek Inc. at York Airport in Thomasville.
Education: 1972 graduate of Central York High School
Community Involvement: Served on the Windsor Township Board of Supervisors for 12 years; served 10 years on the York County Local Government Advisory Committee.


Chris Reilly

Education: Bachelors degree in government and politics from the University of Maryland.
Community involvement: Former county commissioner (1996-2003) Served on the York County Literacy Council for two years. Member of the York County SPCA and Golden Vision Foundation.


Chuck Richards

Age: 57
Residence: Dover Township
Family: Wife, Carol; son, Charles Jr.; daughters Ann and Cathy.
Profession: Retired as manager with General Telephone and Electronics Corp, which merged with Bell Atlantic in 2000 to become Verizon Communications.
Education: Dover Area High School class of 1968, bachelors degree in business administration from York College.
Community involvement: Member of the Westgate Lions Club, former volunteer firefighter with the Dover Township Volunteer Fire Department, former member of the Exchange Club of York, former volunteer for Junior Achievement of South Central Pennsylvania, former troop leader and chair of the executive committee of the Boy Scouts of America council.

Ned Grove

Age: 65

Occupation: Real estate agent
Education: Graduate of Red Lion Area High School in 1959, took public speaking and other classes from Dale Carnegie Training, a global management training company.
Community involvement: Former mayor of Dallastown borough (1977-1981), former member of Dallastown Recreation Board (1997-2001), served on Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency from 1978-1980, former longtime member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.


Doug Hoke

Age: 56
Family: Single
Residence: Dover Township
Occupation: Project administrator for the state Public School Building Authority for about 22 years. The authority helps schools issue tax-free debt to cover the cost of building renovations and construction, non-working partner in Tee to Green Grounds Management Co.
Education: West York Area High School class of 1968, bachelors degree in history/political science from Culver-Stockton College (Mo.).
Community Involvement: Volunteer for Big Brothers Big Sisters of York County, volunteer for the Asera Care hospice dog therapy program.


Doug Kilgore

Age: 48
Residence: Lower Chanceford Township
Occupation: County commissioner (since 2004), lifelong farmer
Education: Red Lion Area High School class of 1976, associate degree in applied science in dairy science from SUNY Delhi (N.Y.).
Community Involvement: Sits on the boards of the York Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, Southcentral Employment Corp., York County Library System, York County Conservation District, York County Agricultural Land Preservation Program and the William F. Goodling Advanced Skills Center. Former board member of the Farm and Natural Lands Trust of York County. Served for 10 years on the Red Lion Area School District board, and formerly very active in York County Farm Bureau.
