PHILADELPHIA—Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy is set to speak Thursday in Philadelphia, days before the high court starts its next term.

Kennedy is teaching a constitutional law class this week at the University of Pennsylvania's law school, and speaking Thursday evening.

The Supreme Court's annual term starts Monday—with campaign finance limits, affirmative action and high-profile issues on the calendar.

Kennedy, a 77-year-old centrist from California, is often the swing vote in 5-4 decisions. He's been on the court for 25 years.

Several Supreme Court justices have been busy giving speeches this month.

Justice Antonin Scalia is visiting the University of Virginia on Thursday, after a speech Wednesday at Tufts University.

And Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg recently spoke at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia.
