Prosecutors in Chester County allege that 20-year-old Shakeem Carter of Norristown stabbed Kevin Allen more than 20 times in his father's North Coventry Township apartment on Feb. 12.
District Attorney Tom Hogan called the murder scene a "doorway into hell," with blood everywhere and three bloody knives. Police said $350 left for Allen by his father was missing.
Carter is charged with homicide, second- and third-degree murder, assault, robbery, arson, abuse of a corpse and other counts.
He was in Chester County prison without bail. A listed number for him couldn't be found Wednesday; it was unclear whether he had an attorney.
