HATBORO, Pa.—Authorities say a suburban Philadelphia man who told them that he fell on his infant daughter after drinking has now been charged with third-degree murder in her death.

Police in Upper Moreland Township and Montgomery County prosecutors say the charges were filed against 28-year-old Edward Doyle after an autopsy indicated that his account was inconsistent with the injuries of 2-month-old Makayla Doyle, who died Sunday morning.

Police filed an endangering charge after Doyle told them he tripped and fell onto her after drinking heavily. But authorities said the child had broken ribs, skull fractures and nose injuries "consistent with pinching the nasal airway."

Doyle, also charged with unsworn falsification to authorities, is now being held without bail; his attorney did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
