The Philadelphia Inquirer ( http://bit.ly/VMhdOD) says the West Chester borough council approved the purchase of 240 signs on Wednesday that will call for quiet between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m., with violators subject to a $250 fine.
Residents have long complained about noise at night in student-heavy downtown areas near West Chester University.
Councilman Jordan Norley says installing the signs will cost $4,230. He said similar signs have proven effective at other universities, and the effort is "primarily an awareness and education tool."
