STRONG, Pa.—Police say two elderly cousins were killed in a crash that happened while a relative was driving them to a routine health checkup in eastern Pennsylvania.

The Republican-Herald of Pottsville reports ( http://bit.ly/Y7plnx) the head-on accident happened around 12:15 p.m. Monday in Strong when the car they were riding in hit a pickup, whose driver was seriously injured.

The Northumberland County coroner's office has identified the cousins who were killed as 92-year-old Charles D. Carl and 76-year-old Roland E. Matejick. Police say they were being driven to the appointment by a relative, who was in fair condition after the crash.

Police say the relative, 40-year-old Tina Alexander, is a granddaughter of Carl and a niece of Matejick.

The crash is under investigation.
