The (Easton) Express-Times ( http://bit.ly/UxYhjH) says 30-year-old Lafayette Upshaw of Allentown pleaded guilty Monday to third-degree murder in the March 7 slaying of 19-year-old Anthony Santiago.
Prosecutors earlier said they intended to seek the death penalty. First Deputy District Attorney Steven Luksa said he wasn't happy about the plea bargain but had little choice because witnesses refused to cooperate with police.
Upshaw told authorities that he confronted Santiago and others because he believed they were involved in a burglary of a music studio he ran. He said one of the men pulled a gun so he pulled his own and fired but hit Santiago.
