The Akron, Ohio-based utility didn't identify the former employee at the Beaver Valley Nuclear Power Station. That's about 35 miles northwest of Pittsburgh. The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission filed notice of the violation this week.
The Beaver County Times ( http://bit.ly/TrgzoG) reports Thursday the worker mistakenly left one snubber—a shock absorber—off a test during a March 2011 inspection and didn't inform managers when he noticed the error. FirstEnergy found the oversight during a routine audit last year.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission says the violation is considered "low level" because the company immediately corrected it.
