HARVEYS LAKE, Pa.—Authorities in northeastern Pennsylvania say an elderly man was found dead after a fire in his home.

Fire crews in Luzerne County were called to the blaze in Harveys Lake just after 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Crews found and extinguished a small blaze in a recliner but found the body of a man on the floor nearby.

Acting Coroner William Lisman identified the victim as 81-year-old Robert Hart. He said investigators believe he was trying to escape the flames and smoke.

An autopsy is planned to determine the cause of death.

State police deputy fire marshals are investigating the cause of the blaze.
