Authorities in Lackawanna County told The (Scranton) Times-Tribune ( http://bit.ly/UIQP1Y) that the fire in the Old Forge home was reported shortly before 4 p.m. Friday.
One man was taken to safety, but 60-year-old Joseph Casella was found unconscious and rushed to Geisinger Community Medical Center, where he died shortly afterward. Coroner Tim Rowland said he died of smoke inhalation and ruled the manner of death accidental.
Fire crews said the blaze started in a second-floor bathroom and spread throughout the upstairs and the attic. Police said in a statement that the cause had not been determined but the fire "does not appear to be criminal in nature."
