Three priests tell The Courier-Post of Cherry Hill ( http://on.cpsj.com/VB6a5S) Bishop Joseph Galante will announce he's retiring because of health reasons.
The Philadelphia native began dialysis due to chronic kidney disease in 2011. Galante would reach the mandatory retirement age of 75 in July.
Galante was installed as bishop of the Camden Diocese in 2004. During his tenure, the number of parishes was reconfigured from 124 to 70.
The Camden Diocese includes Roman Catholics in Cape May, Atlantic, Cumberland, Salem, Gloucester and Camden counties.
