Investigators say Neshaminy High School junior Trevor Newman tried to jump out of the way of the SEPTA regional rail train around 2:20 p.m. on New Year's Day. But he was hit and pronounced dead at the scene, just south of the Langhorne train station.
The Philadelphia Inquirer reports ( http://bit.ly/VkB4iO) Bucks County Coroner Joseph Campbell ruled the death an accident, pending a toxicology report.
Investigators say Newman was walking north along the tracks on the West Trenton rail line, with his back to the train. A spokesman for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority says the engineer sounded the horn but could not stop in time.
