PITTSBURGH—A county councilman in western Pennsylvania has been cited for allegedly driving under the influence.

Sixty-four-year-old Robert J. Macey is an Allegheny County councilman who represents a district that includes his home in West Mifflin. The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports ( http://bit.ly/TEgB8Z) he says he was driving to a friend's cabin when his vehicle went into a ditch on an icy road in Venango County around 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

Macey says he was examined by firefighters, who summoned state police. There were no injuries, but minor damage to his vehicle. He says he had been drinking the night before, but not on Saturday morning.

Macey tells the newspaper he's "ashamed" and that he "messed up". He's apologizing to his constituents and says he has entered a treatment program.
