RIDGWAY, Pa.—A northwestern Pennsylvania sheriff is suing his county's commissioners saying they've wrongly told him the county will fall about $9,000 short of paying his staff this year.

But the Elk County commissioners and solicitor, Thomas Wagner, say Sheriff Jeffrey Krieg has mismanaged his office and spent more than the county had budgeted for his office. Krieg claims the county has simply refused to come up with enough money to meet his normal expenses.

A visiting judge is being brought in to hear Krieg's lawsuit on Friday. The sheriff filed it last week when he says he was told the county had no more money to pay his workers past Dec. 8.

Krieg's staff, based in Ridgway about 100 miles northeast of Pittsburgh, is working this week anyway even though they're not sure if they'll be paid.
