The probation does not affect the university's accreditation. But the Association of American Law Schools could have banned Villanova faculty from participating in conferences or withheld faculty recruitment services.
The Philadelphia Inquirer ( http://bit.ly/VZjmBZ) reports the association considered Villanova's own thorough investigation into grade inflation.
Villanova disclosed last year that staff members inflated the school's median grade-point averages and scores on the Law School Admissions Test. Inflated averages can make a school appear more selective than it actually is.
