VANDERGRIFT, Pa.—A suburban Pittsburgh man is behind bars after he allegedly shook a 2-month-old girl so hard she died from brain damage.

Police in Vandergrift filed the new charges last week against 30-year-old Matthew Milisits in the death of 8-week-old Sophia Ludwiczak.

Milisits had already been in custody after police say he admitted shaking the girl on Nov. 15 at his home about 15 miles outside of Pittsburgh. He was arraigned Tuesday on charges including criminal homicide.

Sophia was removed from life support on Nov. 19.

Defense attorney Duke George says he anticipated the filing of new charges and was preparing to review the autopsy report.

Police initially said Sophia was Milisits' daughter but he has since said he wasn't sure he was the girl's father.
