PITTSBURGH—A Pittsburgh man jailed on charges he shot a city police officer is due in court for his preliminary hearing.

Tiant Mitchell and his wife were also wounded in the shooting about 5 a.m. Oct. 12.

Police say the 25-year-old man fired shots into the air hoping to draw police to the scene and when Officer Andrew Baker arrived, Mitchell shot the officer's cruiser then hit the officer in the chest as he was getting out of the vehicle. Baker wasn't wounded, however, because he was wearing a bulletproof vest.

Police say Mitchell's wife was hit in the hand as Baker returned fire, also wounding Mitchell in the buttocks.

Online court records don't list an attorney for Mitchell whose hearing on attempted homicide and other charges was scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
