The Erie Times-News ( http://bit.ly/RWPx2p) says 34-year-old David Fry pleaded guilty in Erie County Court on Wednesday to second-degree murder and simple assault in the death of 36-year-old Matthew Lyons.
Authorities said Lyons was beaten to death with a statue during a March 24 robbery of his Highpoint Towers unit.
Fry was sentenced to the mandatory life term without possibility of parole as well as an additional 11 to 22 years on other charges stemming from crimes that preceded the slaying.
The paper reports that Fry told Judge Ernest DiSantis that he didn't mean for anyone to get hurt but he "snapped."
