State police told The Philadelphia Inquirer ( http://bit.ly/RdYiaS) that a passenger in the car was taken to the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center for evaluation after the 9:30 a.m. Monday accident.
Police said after hitting the car, the tire went airborne and smashed through the roof of the Philadelphia Housing Authority's Workforce Development Center, where about 30 people were evacuated. A small gas leak on the roof was contained.
Cpl. Gerard McShea said a truck driver called police Monday afternoon and said he arrived in New Jersey and found a tire missing from his 18-wheeler. McShea said charges were unlikely in the case.
