SCRANTON, Pa.—A northeastern Pennsylvania man has been ordered to stand trial in the death of a man stabbed during a fight in a vacant lot last month.

The (Scranton) Times-Tribune ( http://bit.ly/PIltvi) says a Lackawanna County judge on Friday ordered 37-year-old Joseph Cedeno of Carbondale to stand trial on a charge of criminal homicide.

He is charged with homicide, assault and reckless endangering in the Sept. 23 stabbing death of Dennis Doherty. Court documents indicate that robbery charges in the case have been withdrawn.

A witness testified at the preliminary hearing that Cedeno told her he had killed the victim and then washed a bloody knife off in the sink.

Court documents indicate that Cedeno is being represented by the public defender's office, where a message could not be left Saturday.
