SHICKSHINNY, Pa.—A northeastern Pennsylvania former elementary school is going on the auction block.

The Garrison Memorial Elementary School will be auctioned at 10 a.m. Saturday, with a starting bid of $5,000. Proceeds will benefit the Northwest Area School District.

The 22,600-square-foot building opened in 1939 and closed in 2010.

Local officials would like to see the Garrison school turned into a community asset, perhaps housing that will bring more people to the newly revitalized borough.
