BEAVER, Pa.—The attorney for a man charged with threatening to kill a western Pennsylvania youth football coach says the coach should resign because he was having an affair with the suspect's wife while coaching their son.

Steve Colafella represents 37-year-old Brandon Quarles, who Colafella says has custody of the couple's son despite being charged with threatening the Brighton Township Bears midget coach when during a team practice Sept. 12.

The Associated Press is not identifying the coach in question because he's not been charged with a crime, but Colafella tells the Beaver County Times ( http://bit.ly/QhpilX) that he's asked the league to have the man resign.

Colafella says it's "unconscionable" that the coach would have an affair with the married mother of one of his players.

Quarles faces a preliminary hearing on the threat charge on Nov. 30.
