DAGUSCAHONDA, Pa.—The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection is telling about 100 residents served by their tiny village's water system that they should boil their water because bacteria in the water is "too numerous to count."

Residents in Daguscahonda (dah-goo-SHAWN'-duh) are balking, saying they think the water is safe and that they can't afford filtration systems that could cost $10,000 to $20,000 per household.

But DEP officials tell the Bradford Era ( http://bit.ly/Qpkn3t0) that E. coli levels are dangerously high and coliform levels are classified as TNC, which stands for "too numerous to count."

DEP officials are hoping the results will convince the residents to upgrade the spring-fed water system in the village about 95 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.
