BUTLER, Pa.—An elderly man has been ordered to stand trial in the shooting death of his 19-year-old grandson in their western Pennsylvania home.

KDKA-TV ( http://cbsloc.al/RNsHfQ) says a Butler County judge on Tuesday upheld a criminal homicide charge against 76-year-old Larry Karnes.

Authorities allege that Karnes shot Austin Riddell in the chest with a .22 caliber rifle after a Sept. 28 argument in the Connoquenessing Township home.

Police said he told investigators that the shooting was accidental, that he stumbled into a wall and the gun went off.

Defense attorney Terri Shultz says trial testimony will show that her client was no cold-blooded killer but a victim himself. She says it was "a very volatile situation" and the only thing her client is guilty of "is taking his grandson in."
