ERIE, Pa.—A federal judge has set aside the reinstatement of a former Pennsylvania firefighter who argued that she was improperly fired after a 2006 suicide attempt.

Judge Sean McLaughlin says the attorney for former Erie firefighter Mary Wolski failed to show that she was disabled under the Americans With Disabilities Act.

The Erie Times-News ( http://bit.ly/Sy1b2e) reports that Monday's decision grants the city's request for a new trial. In February, a jury ordered Wolski reinstated and paid $207,000 in back pay.

Wolski argued that her firing was illegal because she was being medicated for depression when she attempted suicide by setting clothes on fire in a bathtub. The city said arson was a legitimate reason for dismissal.

Wolski's attorney, Paul Susko, declined comment on the ruling but said his client may appeal.
