The defense attorney for 31-year-old Eric Csurilla (soo-RIL'-luh), of Braddock, didn't return a call for comment after Csurilla was ordered to stand trial after Monday's preliminary hearing.
Investigators believe Csurilla was looking for money to feed a heroin addiction and the woman he allegedly victimized, Catherine Oberst, says "that was the first thing I said to police. That man needs help and I hope he gets it."
The incident happened Sept. 9 at the Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish in the city's Troy Hill neighborhood.
Three parishioners grabbed Csurilla after they saw him take the purse. It contained $2 and a department store credit card.
