STATE COLLEGE, Pa.—Penn State's creamery is recalling frozen treats it made over a nearly three-month span after consumers reported finding small pieces of plastic and, in one case, a penny in their ice cream.

The recall announced Thursday affects ice cream and frozen yogurt made between May 16 and Aug. 11 by the on-campus Berkey Creamery.

University officials say no injuries or illnesses have been linked to the products but that they're "erring on the side of caution."

The creamery first received a report about a penny in a half-gallon ice cream container in May. Penn State police thought it an isolated incident until three other customers complained of plastic in their containers.

The Centre Daily Times ( http://bit.ly/U2VTAk) reports an independent investigation found the plastic pieces did not get into the product during manufacturing.
