Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook says Thursday that authorities were working to confirm the man's identity. An autopsy was also planned.
Police Chief Steve Franklin says two bicycle patrol officers encountered the man at an intersection as they were leaving the domestic dispute, which had just been resolved.
Franklin was not releasing the officer's names, pending an internal investigation into the shooting.
Franklin says the man was not carrying identification. Cook, the coroner, says authorities believe they know who the man is, but won't release the information until it has been confirmed.
