YORK, Pa.—A central Pennsylvania judge has rejected a woman's bid to plead guilty to third-degree murder in the shooting death of her boyfriend almost two years ago.

Forty-nine-year-old JoAnn Helfrich is charged in York County with first- and third-degree murder in the October 2010 slaying of 59-year-old Fred McClure in York. She told authorities that she thought he was an intruder.

The York Daily Record ( http://bit.ly/PtqNRp) says Chief Deputy Prosecutor Jennifer Russell told the court on Wednesday that Helfrich was unable to admit to the facts as established by the evidence against her. Judge Gregory Snyder put the case back on the October jury trial list.
