The Centre Daily Times ( http://bit.ly/Tx9q4f) says the blaze at the former Garman Hotel that hosed Hotel Do De was reported at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday.
The blaze was not declared under control until about 6 a.m. Sunday. Bellefonte Fire Department Chief Tim Schreffler says the cause remains unknown.
Building owner John Dann Sr. says all tenants either escaped unharmed or weren't home at the time, and hotel bar patrons also escaped unharmed.
Three firefighters were treated today for likely smoke inhalation. Schreffler says the neighboring Garman Theatre sustained fire and smoke damage.
The Red Cross, Salvation Army and nearby Faith Centre were helping out displaced residents.
