DULUTH, Minn.—U.S. Steel Corp. says it has reached a tentative agreement with the United Steelworkers of America on a three-year labor contract.

The tentative deal announced Sunday would cover 16,000 employees nationwide. That includes 1,620 workers at U.S. Steel's mines in Minnesota's Iron Range.

A Duluth News Tribune report ( http://bit.ly/QTnRP9) says the union still has to ratify the agreement. Terms of the agreement weren't immediately available.

John P. Surma is the CEO of the Pittsburgh-based company. He says he's pleased with the tentative agreement, and says it's in the best interest of the company, workers and shareholders.

A message left with a United Steelworkers spokesman was not immediately returned.

Contract agreements still haven't been reached between the Steelworkers and two other companies—ArcelorMittal and Cliffs Natural Resources.
