Franklin County authorities said fire crews were called to the Antrim Township property just after 11 p.m. Thursday and found the barn, which was used for storage, in flames. The cause is under investigation.
The (Chambersburg) Public Opinion ( http://bit.ly/PS3Xmn) says the barn was originally part of a farm dating to the 1750s.
Former owner Howard Guest said the stone house across the road was built around 1750, and barns were typically built for a new farm before a house.
Doug Barnes of the county historical society said he doesn't know when the barn was built but it was probably one of the oldest in the county.
