WILKES-BARRE, Pa.—A mother in northeastern Pennsylvania has been charged with covering up her son's alleged role in the accidental fatal shooting of his best friend.

Angelina Deabreu was arraigned Friday in Wilkes-Barre on counts including evidence tampering in the death of 14-year-old Tyler Winstead.

Authorities say Deabreu's teenage son accidentally shot Winstead in April while playing with a loaded revolver. Prosecutors say her son moved Winstead's body from the house to the sidewalk and claimed the victim had been shot by a drive-by assailant.

Authorities say Deabreu hid the gun, lied to investigators and deleted earlier cellphone pictures of her son handling the weapon. Her son also faces an unspecified charge in closed juvenile court proceedings.

Defense attorney Tom Marsilio says Deabreu made some errors in judgment and is sorry.
