GREENVILLE, N.Y.—Authorities say a Pennsylvania woman has been killed and her husband is in critical condition after their car drifted off an interstate highway in southeastern New York and slammed into a tree.

State police say 59-year-old Jennifer Beykirch of Dingmans Ferry was driving east on Interstate 84 around 2 p.m. Wednesday when the car drifted onto the grassy shoulder and traveled about 170 feet before hitting a tree in the Orange County town of Greenville. That's on the New Jersey border 60 miles northwest of New York City.

Troopers say she died at the scene. Her husband, 55-year-old Christopher Beykirch, was flown to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. He's in critical condition Thursday.

The accident is under investigation.
