Weaver Industries Inc. helped make dozens of tiles for the project, which resulted on Sunday in a successful landing, reported ( http://bit.ly/NG1ciP) the Intelligencer Journal/Lancaster New Era.
The privately-held company specializes in producing custom graphite material for use by foundries.
Workers at the 80-employee company machined the tiles to specific sizes for the heat shield, which was about 15 feet in diameter.
Weaver also machined the mold for the first heat shield around the Mercury capsule that contained Alan Shepard in May 1961.
