SCRANTON, Pa.—A northeastern Pennsylvania man accused of setting a fire that killed two of his ex-girlfriend's young sons is set to appear before a judge next month to stand trial.

A Lackawanna County judge will preside over the nonjury trial of 43-year-old William Woods that's scheduled for Sept. 5.

Investigators say Woods set the July 2010 fire in Scranton that killed 9-year-old Taevon Miles and 10-year-old Michael Miles. Their mother and 12-year-old brother were also seriously injured.

The Times-Tribune of Scranton ( http://bit.ly/OWaLOG) reports the fire is suspected of starting in the home's dining room, possibly through a broken window.

Prosecutors agreed not to pursue the death penalty in return for Woods agreeing to accept a nonjury trial.

Woods had previously threatened to kill his ex and burn down the house.
