Federal prosecutors in eastern Pennsylvania say a superseding indictment was filed Tuesday charging 77-year-old Anthony Lupas of Wilkes-Barre with 29 counts of mail fraud, conspiracy to commit mail fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering. Lupas had been charged in May with five counts of mail fraud.
Former clients who are suing Lupas allege that he stole millions of dollars. He served as solicitor for the Wilkes-Barre Area School District for decades until his resignation earlier this year.
Defense attorneys who entered a not guilty plea to the earlier charges say their client isn't competent to understand the charges due to a fall last year.
