ALBANY, N.Y.—Some of the numbers included in the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives' 2011 report tracing guns used in crimes in New York:

— The report tracked 4,285 pistols, 2,270 revolvers, 1,190 rifles, 929 shotguns, 95 derringers, 9 machineguns, four explosives and 11 other weapons.

— The report identified the original retail purchase state for 4,973 of the guns.

— 1,595 were originally bought in New York

— 407 came from Virginia.

— 368 came from Pennsylvania

— 349 came from North Carolina

— 341 came from Florida

— 332 came from Georgia

— 328 came from South Carolina.

— 170 came from Ohio

— 110 came from Texas

— 109 came from Alabama.

— Guns came nearly every state, the District of Columbia, Quebec and Guam.

Among New York's guns:

— 3,980 crime guns came from New York City.

— 878 came from Rochester.

— 691 came from Buffalo.

The ATF reported 5.46 million firearms manufactured in the U.S. in 2010, with 242,000 exported and another 2.8 million imported.
