CONNELLSVILLE, Pa.—Authorities in western Pennsylvania say an all-terrain vehicle plunged from a cliff above the Youghiogheny (YAWK'-a-gen-nee) River, killing the rider.

Officials in Fayette County said the man and a friend were riding ATVs in Connellsville Township at about 2:15 p.m. Monday.

EMS director Rick Adobato said the man was trying to turn around when he and his vehicle fell over the cliff onto the rocks below.

Officials said the man fell 30 to 40 feet and was deceased by the time rescue crews reached him.

Coroner Phillip Reilly identified the victim as 56-year-old Anthony Bartholomai of Connellsville and told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that he died of blunt force trauma.
