The archdiocese has named Carol Cary as the new superintendent of secondary schools and Jacqueline Coccia as the new head of elementary schools.
The women began their jobs Thursday, the same day the announcement was made.
Cary and Coccia replace former Superintendent Mary Rochford (ROTCH'-ford), who oversaw all grade levels. Rochford left last month to care for family members.
Both Cary and Coccia had been working in administrative roles in the archdiocese's Office of Catholic Education.
The church has 17 high schools and 123 elementary schools in Philadelphia and four surrounding counties. About 68,000 students attended the schools last year.
