NORRISTOWN, Pa.—A former suburban Philadelphia county commissioner has been admitted to a pretrial diversion program to resolve a false-swearing case against him tied to a public corruption investigation.

One-time Montgomery County commissioners Chairman Jim Matthews will have his charged dismissed if he successfully completes the Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition program. He must also pay a fine and make a charitable donation.

Prosecutors say Matthews, whose brother is television commentator Chris Matthews, lied to a grand jury about his business relationship with a title insurance company that frequently handled county business.

Outside court on Tuesday Matthews said he was ready to put the case behind him.

In a letter to prosecutors Matthews said he accepted responsibility for his actions.
