SCRANTON, Pa.—A northeastern Pennsylvania man has been ordered to spend at least nine months in prison for attacking another man with a machete over a car he'd bought from the victim.

A Lackawanna County judge sentenced 47-year-old Rolando Moran Carrasquillo to as much as 23 months in prison for the December attack on Jorge Ruiz.

Prosecutors say Carrasquillo was upset over a car deal with Ruiz and demanded money before nearly chopping off the victim's fingers.

The Times-Tribune of Scranton ( http://bit.ly/Njy58I) reports Carrasquillo pleaded guilty to aggravated assault despite claiming he acted in self-defense.
