The new policy also limits recreational facilities for use by someone with a valid university identification card, with access confined only to those times designated for public use.
An administrator overseeing campus police said in a statement Wednesday that the policy was a piece of an overall plan in part to provide the "safest environment possible to our constituents."
The change was announced on the eve of the release of findings of the school's internal investigation into the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal. Sandusky was convicted last month of 45 criminal counts in connection with allegations involving 10 boys, some in university athletic facilities.
