GRINDSTONE, Pa.—State police say a 16-year-old boy has surrendered on charges including attempted homicide for allegedly shooting a 7-year-old boy in the chest.

Deago Eddings, of Connellsville, surrendered accompanied by his mother and an attorney on Tuesday.

State police in Uniontown say Eddings became angry and shot the alleged victim, one of several younger boys engaged in some unspecified horseplay near the Hunter's Ridge Housing Complex in Redstone Township. The shooting happened July 3 about 35 miles southeast of Pittsburgh.

Police say the victim, Amarr-e (ah-MAR'-ee) Williams, was flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va. where he remains Tuesday.

Defense attorney Blaine Jones says Eddings "is not running from this" and turned himself in. Jones says he's asking the public to reserve judgment.
